USAID SAFE Program is happy to announce that Gard Benda Ntegyereize, was a finalist in the competition for the EU Human Rights Defenders Award 2017, in tribute for his work battling land grabbing in the disturbances caused by the discovery of oil and gas in Uganda
Ntegyereize is the Executive Director of World Voices Uganda, one of the organizations funded by the SAFE Program located in the Albertine Region, specifically Kibaale District.
USAID SAFE worked with WVU under the project titled “Promoting community dialogues for mitigation of natural resources related conflicts in Kibaale district” from 1st March 2015 to 28th February 2017.
“In this partnership we achieved a lot and in fact I thank USAID SAFE for being such wonderful partners, you and my team are the major reason why l managed to get this award. I will always be grateful” he said.
“Am happy to be among the few people that managed to be finalists at the awards by the European Union as they recognised the achievements of Human Rights Defenders in Uganda”.
The function was graced with the presence of the Danish Ambassador to Uganda and the American Ambassador to Uganda Deborah Malac.
